Trailer Breakdown - Devlog #2
Hi all,
I thought I'd give a 'trailer' breakdown and explanation.
First of all here is the trailer again:
https://youtu.be/vEkXoFDA7jA
This video was done as part of a project pitch for my college course and as such nothing in it is quite a finished project because I wanted to get more of the ideas across than anything else.
The trailer is shown as if it were a story being told to the viewer, which is something that I am considering for the final game but am unsure of at the minute.
The first shot is an establishing shot for the entire game to show off where the game will take place, in a walled city on top of a mountain above the clouds. It might not be as obvious as it could have been but it also shows off that the city is split into three districts as well as a castle at the top of the city.
The next thing I wanted to show was how the city was ruled, so the next shot shows off the King's throne room with his large marble throne on a raised platform followed by a council chambers for his advisors. I was going for a contrast between imposing and regal for the two rooms, like how the throne is a giant solid piece of stone whereas the chairs are smaller and more decorative.
The next shots are to show off some aspects of the city the player would be encountering. There are two examples of magic, how it looks and works, and a shot of a church, because every RPG needs a good religious cult.
After that there's three clips meant to highlight the division in the city's social districts. The first being the guarded entrances between the districts, then a man rolling dice in a casino followed by a person begging in the street.
The next shot is about the city's history, which is just showing off a statue meant to be in a town square area. Which I wanted to show off because it would play a fairly big part in the story of the game.
The next shot is a zoom in on the player, who is called Keith. This shot is meant to establish that going into the game you're just some average person living in the city.
Then there is the title screen and a picture of a crest which is Leonard's Mark.
The trailer ends with a quick mock up of the type of battle screen that'd be in the game.
