Game World & Details - Devlog #3
Hi all,
For this update I just wanted to go over some of the fundamentals about the world of Leonard's Mark and the game in general.
Future updates will probably be shorter and more directly focused on the game's development and updates, while this is more me laying out some general concepting and details.
World details:
This is just some of the in game details about the world, most of which I want to be able to touch on in the game.
First is the setting, Baile Sora is a city in relative isolation that doesn't know anything about the wider world (or if there is one).
There is no specific timeframe in the world but it has a fantasy sword and sorcery aesthetic.
As I have mentioned previously, the city is ruled by a king and advisors and split into districts which are each looked after by one of the advisors.
The city also has a religion called 'The church of the rising Phoenix' (foreboding? maybe, on the nose? definitely).
The way magic works in this city is through 'marks', marks are magic symbols that a small percentage of people develop, when they turn eighteen, on their makes. These symbols denote the type of magic that the person is able to use, e.g the mark of flame will appear on people that can do fire magic.
Concepting + details:
The way I think about this game there are two main aspects of gameplay free-roaming, in which the player can walk around, talk to people and explore, and combat, where the player engages in turn-based fights. These are some of the concept doodles I did while trying to figure out what I wanted.
This is the style of dialogue box I want to have when talking to NPCs.
When I was making this I was considering giving the enemies the same stats on screen as the player but I think that that would be too cluttered.
For the pause menu I was considering having an image of something off to the right as a space filler (if I did this it probably wouldn't be the player).
I wanted to keep the options menu on the screen as a sort of sub-menu to see what it would look like.
Lastly, was a menu to let the player check and keep track to character stats and info.
